Monitor kamiPay: How Pix Became the Primary Payment Method for Argentinians in Brazil

At kamiPay, we set out to independently measure how payment habits change when Argentinians travel to Brazil. That decision led to the creation of the kamiPay Monitor on Pix adoption among Argentinian users, developed in partnership with Netquest, a market research firm specialized in consumer insights.

This is the second edition of the study, and the results confirm something we had already been sensing: Pix has stopped being “a convenient alternative” and has become the standard.

The clearest data point says it all: 80.6% of travelers say Pix covers at least half of their total spending in Brazil. In other words, for the vast majority, Pix is no longer an occasional tool—it’s how everyday expenses are paid while traveling.

Within that group, the cultural shift is even more evident. Four out of ten travelers (40.5%) expect to use Pix for almost all of their spending. That’s no longer about trying something new. It’s about reorganizing consumption around a new way of paying.

When we look at the use of different payment methods, the gap is just as striking. Among Argentinians who have already traveled to Brazil, 61.1% used apps with Pix, surpassing cash (49.1%) and cards (45.7%).

In practice, Pix outperforms traditional payment methods—and does so in a way that fundamentally changes the experience. Less friction, fewer unpleasant surprises, less reliance on cash, and a flow that feels local even when you’re crossing a border.

This shift doesn’t happen in isolation. It comes alongside a strong increase in outbound tourism from Argentina to Brazil. According to data from INDEC, 2024 closed with 3.6 million trips, and 2025 has already reached 4.84 million trips between January and October, far exceeding pre-pandemic peaks.

The effect is even more pronounced during the summer season. The 2024/2025 summer recorded 2.08 million trips, compared to 1.08 million in 2023/2024—a 92% year-over-year increase.

With more Argentinians traveling and spending in Brazil, payment methods play an increasingly central role. As volumes grow, so does the need for an experience that is clear, fast, and predictable. That’s where Pix fits perfectly: instant payments, available 24/7, embedded in apps people already use.

kamiPay plays a specific role in this story. We connect real-time payment systems between Argentina and Brazil, providing infrastructure that allows banks, fintechs, and platforms to offer Pix payments to Argentinian users through their everyday apps.

This proximity to the phenomenon allows us to go beyond simply “tracking trends.” That’s why the Monitor exists. It’s not just a report—it’s a way to frame and understand a shift that is redefining the cross-border payments ecosystem in the region.

This second edition expands the sample and confirms the trend: Pix is now the primary payment method for Argentinian tourist spending in Brazil.

For those interested in the methodology, the study was conducted on an initial sample of 6,282 respondents. To analyze payment habits related specifically to travel to Brazil, a subsample of 2,431 respondents was used. For questions focused on Pix usage, the sample concentrated on 1,100 individuals who used or plan to use Pix during their trip. Fieldwork took place between October 31 and November 30, 2025.

We’ll be sharing more findings from the Monitor in the coming weeks. Because what’s happening is not a minor operational change—it’s a deep and structural transformation in habits. And when habits change, everything else follows.

We’ll continue releasing more insights soon—but if you can’t wait, reach out through the form at the bottom of the page and we’ll send you the full report.
