Lemon is a digital wallet that lets people save, invest, and pay with crypto assets and fiat currency. Founded in 2019, it is today one of the leading digital asset platforms in Argentina and Peru, with more than 4.2 million validated users across the region and 1.3 million monthly active users.
Toward the end of 2024, as outbound tourism from Argentina to Brazil grew significantly, travelers began looking for a more convenient way to pay during their stays.
Lemon saw in that need an opportunity that aligned directly with its mission: using crypto as infrastructure so more people can do more with their money.
To build the solution, they needed a technology partner that could offer a simple integration, free of technical complexities, and a robust product capable of keeping up with the accelerated growth they anticipated. That’s how their partnership with kamiPay began.
The solution
“kamiPay offered a solution that stood out for its simplicity. The technical integration wasn’t overly complex, and the product was built to meet our standards,” said Agostina Rey, Product Manager at Lemon.
The implementation went exactly as Lemon expected: simple and fast. The team completed the integration in just a few weeks, building the solution into the app end to end. An efficient flow design and clear technical documentation kept the need for meetings with the kamiPay team to a minimum.
With the integration live, Lemon users can pay in reais directly from the app: they scan a QR code or enter a Pix key, and their funds, whether in pesos or digital dollars, are instantly converted to the exact amount in reais.
The payment process is the same one Brazilian users and merchants have widely adopted, without Argentine travelers needing to open an account in Brazil or use another app.
The impact
The launch of Pix payments had an immediate effect on Lemon’s business, driving both the acquisition of new users who came to the app specifically to pay in Brazil, and the volume transacted during those months.
For those traveling from Argentina to Brazil, the benefit translated into savings of up to 30% compared to other payment methods, thanks to a more convenient exchange rate.
“Lemon’s metrics in Argentina moved considerably. This integration allowed all these new users to do exactly what Lemon set out to do: help more people take advantage of crypto without even realizing it, and do more with their money,” said Agostina Rey, Product Manager at Lemon.
The relationship between the Lemon and kamiPay teams remains active on a daily basis, with fluid communication that allows them to quickly resolve any issues that come up, stay on top of product developments, which have added new features since launch, and explore new growth opportunities together.
